Rent a dirndl in Munich

Dresscoded rents designer dirndls in Munich — over one hundred dresses from 60 to 260 euros, for four or eight days, professional cleaning included. You reserve online before your trip, try on and pick up at our Munich showroom after you arrive, and return the dress before you fly home. No suitcase space, no washing, no wondering what to do with a dirndl you will wear once.

What a dirndl actually is

A dirndl is the traditional Bavarian dress, and it comes in four parts: a fitted bodice, a full skirt, a blouse worn underneath, and an apron tied over the skirt. The bodice does the work — it is tailored and structured, closer to a corset than to a sundress. The blouse is short, ending under the bust, and is chosen separately to match the neckline. Skirt length in Munich is usually just below the knee.

Real tracht, not a costume

Locals can spot a souvenir-shop costume across a beer tent: thin fabric, printed patterns, a bodice that does not hold its shape. Our collection is the opposite — designer tracht from Bavarian labels such as Alpenherz, Astrid Söll, Krüger and Ena, made of linen, cotton, velvet and silk, the same dresses Munich women wear themselves. Renting one costs a fraction of the 400 to 1,000 euros these dresses sell for.

Finding your size

Our dirndls run in German sizes 32 to 44 — roughly US 2 to 14 and UK 6 to 18. As a quick guide, German 36 is about UK 10 and US 6, German 38 is UK 12 and US 8. Because the bodice is fitted, the number matters less than how it closes: snug, but without pulling. If you are between sizes, the fitting at the showroom settles it in minutes — you try several sizes side by side, and our stylists adjust blouse and apron to match.

How renting works when you are visiting

Reserve your dress online before you travel — during Oktoberfest the popular sizes go first, so book from mid-August. After you arrive, come to the showroom, try on, and take the dirndl with you — or have it delivered to your hotel. When your celebration is over, drop the dress off before you leave Munich or send it back with the prepaid return label. You return it uncleaned; cleaning is part of the rental price.

The showroom in Munich-Schwabing

The showroom is at Karl-Weinmair-Straße 6, 80807 Munich. Take the U3 or U6 to Münchner Freiheit, then tram 23 towards Schwabing Nord to the Anni-Albers-Straße stop — the showroom is three minutes from there. Appointments are free and non-binding, Monday to Friday 9:30 am to 6:30 pm, Saturdays by arrangement. We speak English. Plan about an hour if you want to put together the complete outfit with blouse, apron and jewellery.

Renting during Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest 2026 runs from 19 September to 4 October, and two things change during those weeks. First, demand: sizes 36 and 38 — US 6 and 8 — are gone first, so reserve as early as you can. Second, spare sizes: outside Oktoberfest we ship a free second size with every order, but during the festival tracht is fitted in person at the showroom instead. For visitors this is no loss — the fitting is exactly what you want anyway.

The blouse, the apron and the bow

The blouse is rented separately from 25 euros, because it has to match the neckline of your dirndl. The apron comes with the dress — and where you tie its bow is the detail every visitor asks about: bow on your right means taken, on your left means single, and at the back is reserved for widows and waitresses. Locals really do read it, so tie with intent. One more convention worth knowing: at a Bavarian wedding, leave white to the bride — green, blue and black are the safe guest colours.

What it costs

Rental prices run from 60 euros for cotton dirndls by Ena to around 260 euros for velvet and silk couture by Alpenherz and Astrid Söll, always for four or eight days. There is no deposit. Cleaning, the return label and small signs of wear are included — beer tents are part of the plan. Blouses from 25 euros, the Kropfkette choker and hair accessories can be rented to match.
