Lederhosen Rental Munich: how it works

Renting lederhosen here is deliberately simple. Reserve online before you travel if you like things settled, or come to the showroom when you arrive — you do not have to book a pair in advance. Try on, take everything with you, or have it delivered to your hotel. When the festival is over, drop it off before you leave Munich or send it back with the prepaid return label. You return it uncleaned; professional cleaning is part of the price, and nothing has to fit in your suitcase on the way home.

The complete men's outfit, not just the trousers

Most men arrive with the same problem: they know they need lederhosen, and no idea what else the outfit requires. So we rent every part of it — lederhosen from €90, traditional shirts from €40, waistcoats from €69, Janker jackets from €159, plus Loferl socks and Haferl shoes. Take only the trousers, or the trousers with a shirt, or the whole outfit; you rent the parts you want and nothing else. One showroom, one appointment, someone telling you what works with what — and you leave dressed. No hunting through four shops, and no arriving at the Wiesn in something that is almost right.

Four days included, not four days minimum

Every rental runs for four days, and the price is the same whether you wear the lederhosen for one evening or for the whole weekend. That is not a rule invented to sell you more. Cleaning a pair costs us the same either way, so rather than charging less for less time, we include the time.

It also suits how people visit Munich. A single day cannot be booked here, and you would not want it anyway: a one-day rental means spending part of a short trip returning a pair of trousers. With four days the outfit simply stays with you — the tent on Saturday, the Frühschoppen on Sunday, dinner on Monday, and you drop everything off on your way out of town. Eight days are available for longer trips.

Authentic tracht, not a Bavarian costume

English speakers usually search for a "Bavarian costume". In Munich it is not a costume — it is clothing, and locals wear it to weddings and to work. That distinction is the whole point of what we rent. Our lederhosen are designer pieces in genuine leather that sell for €400 to €800. Cheaper rental exists, and the difference is not an accident: coated material instead of real leather, no fitting, a cut that has given up by the third hour in a tent. In a beer tent there are plenty of people who can tell from ten metres away.

Real leather, and why worn is better

Leather softens and takes the shape of the person wearing it. That is why a rented pair that has already been worn fits better and moves better than a stiff new one straight off the shelf. It is one of the rare cases where rented beats new — and the reason a broken-in pair is treated in Bavaria as the good kind, not the second-best kind. Goat leather is fine-grained and light, pleasant in warm weather; deerskin is the softest and by far the most expensive to buy; cowhide is heavier and tougher.

Krüger is one of the best-known Bavarian tracht houses and has been dressing men and women for over sixty years. Their trousers are known for cleanly executed embroidery and cuts that hold their shape through a long evening — one reason the brand is so common among people who go to the Wiesn every year.

Lederhosen by Julia Trentini

Julia Trentini works with chamois-tanned goat leather, a process using oil rather than chrome. The result is noticeably softer than a standard pair and still hard-wearing. The models differ mainly in the embroidery: from restrained tone-on-tone to strong green or cream on dark leather, sometimes in the oak-leaf pattern, the oldest motif in Bavarian dress.

Sizes 46 to 58, in German, US and UK

We carry German sizes 46 to 58. The standard menswear conversion is to subtract ten, so roughly US and UK 36 to 48. In practice the waist decides, not the number: lederhosen should sit firmly on the hips without pressure, and they give a little once the leather warms up. When buying, the old rule is that a new pair should feel uncomfortably tight because the leather stretches with wear. For a few days that does not apply — yours should fit from the first moment.

Colours beyond brown

Most rental places carry brown only. Ours run from brown through grey to black. Grey is the rarest choice and stands out without shouting; black is the most formal and works where brown would be too rustic. Choosing the colour deliberately is the simplest way to look like something other than the beer-tent default.

Fittings and replacement sizes

Outside the Oktoberfest weeks we include a free second size with every shipment. During Oktoberfest there are no replacement sizes — every size is in circulation. In those weeks, come to the showroom instead: you try several sizes side by side, get proper advice, and we put the complete outfit together with you. For lederhosen that is the better route anyway, because the waist decides and a waist is hard to judge on a screen.

Short notice and last minute

Arrived in Munich with nothing to wear? That is the most common way men find us, and it is not a problem. Everything is in stock in Schwabing rather than in a warehouse, so you can come in, be fitted, and leave with the complete outfit the same day. Delivery, hotels and returns

We deliver across Germany and Austria, Munich hotels included, by standard DHL or express with next-day delivery. A prepaid return label is in the parcel. You return the lederhosen uncleaned — beer, smoke and the normal marks of a long evening are accounted for, and professional cleaning is included in the price.

The showroom in Munich-Schwabing

The showroom is in the Sturm Plaza building at Karl-Weinmair-Straße 6, 80807 Munich. Take the U3 or U6 to Münchner Freiheit, then tram 23 towards Schwabing Nord to Anni-Albers-Straße — three minutes on foot from there, and about 20 minutes from the Theresienwiese. Appointments are free and non-binding, Monday to Friday 9:30 am to 6:30 pm and Saturdays 10 am to 6 pm. We speak English. Oktoberfest 2026 and other occasions

Oktoberfest 2026 runs from 19 September to 4 October. During those weeks the showroom is busier, so a quick call before you come means a fitting room is free when you arrive. Beyond the Wiesn, the same outfit covers tracht weddings, spring Starkbierfeste, company events with a tracht dress code and Volksfeste across Bavaria.
